Hello My Name Is: Dask

Name: Dask
Crew: Blade Runners, ACR, STC
City/Country: Athens GR
When did you start writing? 1994
What’s graffiti for you?
Back in the days, it used to be more like battle for us, now it works as psychotherapy!
Influences?
When I started writing, Bez from Netherlands had just visited in Athens. So the first pieces I fell in love with was his. Also a writer from Greece, Rek79. These two writers are still my basic influence and my mentors. But now with social media you can see styles from all over the world, there are many good writers out there. So you can inspire from here and there.
Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there?
Athens is a great city for graff tourism right now, because of financial crisis nobody gives a shit. Lots of bombs, but not enough style writing!
What keeps you still writing?
Because of my full time job as a tattoo artist, I wasn’t so active for some years. But through graffiti I found again a way to do stuff for me and not commission. Also the trip of innovation of the style an make letters fit together.
What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track?
First pieces I saw were at my school from the twins Ante & Kerts. Later I realised that I love style writing and that’s how the journey begun.
What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like?
Writers care more about effects and colors and not that much about lettering and innovating their style. I don’t have a problem with that, but it’s not my cup of tea.
What do you do when you’re not painting?
Tattooing, music and drinking some pints of lager!
How would you describe your style?
Bladerunning at the Astro-ship Central Railway.
Can you remember the first piece you did?
Of course I do. Scrap cans, toy letters, no skills but a lot of fun!!!
Do you adapt your pieces and tags to the spot/surface?
Sometimes is nice to fit your style in the spot, but I prefer totally black background for my space environment!
What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city?
As everywhere there are good and bad things to see, but I like to see that the city never sleeps.
What writers have inspired you?
Everyone who try to do his stuff with his piece without losing respect to the original form of the letters.
Can you ever feel tired of graffiti?
Physically yes haha!
What do you hope people will think and feel when they see your stuff?
I hope to make them want to buy some tickets for my intergalactic trip!
