Hello My Name Is: Kiss

Kiss_ISpy_HMNI_Insta-PUFF

Name: Kiss (aka I-Spy)
City/Country: Gold Coast, Australia

When did you start writing? I painted my first piece in the year 2000 but gave up for a few years before getting back into it in 2006.

What’s graffiti for you? A creative outlet and escape.

Influences? When I started all I could look to was stuff that was happening locally. These days my friends always seem to come up with cool stuff. I am also a big fan of Scandinavian and Classic NYC styles.

Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there? The Gold Coast is a tourist city more known for it’s beaches than for for it’s graffiti. A lot of writers come and go around here but there is a small but strong group of writers who consistently do their thing year after year.

What keeps you still writing? Progression, always trying to do better than what I did last.

What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track? On a High School trip we went to the art museum and I found Subway Art in the shop and it blew my mind.

What do you do when you’re not painting? Usually checking out punk bands, going to the beach or sketching.

Is it important that people see your stuff and you get recognition? It is important to a degree but being satisfied with the final outcome is the most important.

How would you describe your style? semi-readable with a few connections here and there.

Can you remember the first piece you did? It said “Grind” all dulux sky blue fill.

Future plans? To just keep doing what I do and see where it leads.
