In the Winter of 2015 we brought the New Zealand members of the Ironlak Family together (plus Vans the Omega from Adelaide, Australia) for a tour of Aotearoa.
Narrated by ASKEW the video follows the crew through some of the countrys major cities – Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton. The sense of community in New Zealand is incredibly strong and this shines through the duration of this short video.

In the framework of the second international festival of graffiti, Tahiti New Generation organizes an international graffiti contest named: ONO’U Battle 2015. It will be held from May 5th to 9th, 2015 on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia. This years list of writers is: Kobra, Seth, Roa, Pose, Faith 47, Da Least, Askew, Dabs, Myla, Kems, Sofles & Soten.

In November 2014, as the people of the United Arab Emirates were gearing up to celebrate their 43rd year as a country, the Ironlak Family set off towards the Middle East from their respective corners of the globe. In Dubai the Lak Fam joined over 100 artists from around the world in an ambitious attempt to set a new world record for the “World’s Longest Graffiti Scroll”.

Titled ‘Rehlhatna’, meaning ‘Our Journey’, the main feature of the event was a ridiculously long canvas on Jumeirah Beach which was stretched into the shape of the country. The artists were asked to create work which reflected the past, present and future achievements of the UAE.
On the final day, an official judge from Guinness World Records measured out the scroll at 2245.4 metres and declared the new world record set.

When did you start writing: 1993

What’s graffiti for you? An outlet, a form of expression, something I did to define myself as a young person.

What do you do when you’re not painting? I’m a full time artist so when I’m not painting I’m doing stuff related to painting.

How would you describe your style? My graffiti is a balance of loose gestural painting, organic but at the core pretty traditional letter structure.

What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track? Growing up in Central Auckland in the 90’s, everyone seemed to have a tag. It was synonymous with being young in my city.

Is it important that people see your stuff and you get recognition? To be honest, that was a major motivator in the beginning but nowadays graffiti is quite personal for me. I still like to share it but recognition isn’t the motivator.

You been painting for a long time, is it the same feeling now as before? No it’s really different. you have to keep evolving for it to stay fresh.

What is your favorite city in the world and why? I love Detroit, LA & Papeete in Tahiti a lot. I also think Sydney in Australia is great.

What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like? I would say the current trend has gone much more towards bubbly hip graffiti that’s not so technical or rendered but I wouldn’t say I dislike it, it’s just not how I tend to paint. Things always go in cycles.

What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city? There’s a ver new crop that are becoming visible now, they’re all pretty good man. I don’t know a lot of the current generation but just glad to see graffiti come back to life in my city after the council really crushed it for the past 4 years.

Future plans? Just keep on my journey, I make art full time as I mentioned and there’s a lot in the way of studio and large outdoor work that’s really calling me right now. That’s why graffiti has become more of a release, a way for me to switch off and just feel rather than over think.

My name is Jaime Sanchez  I’m a Mexican American photographer from Chicago IL. I been taking photos for 3 yrs, and filming for 6yrs now. I’ve been very blessed through what I do but like many I’ve been homeless and still homeless now, thankfully I’ve have people who have helped me, I continue to do what I do because I love it I have a special bond that I’ve build’t with the artist’s. In which I love to capture there story and what the graffiti artist do or what they leave behind for others too see.
To go out with the artist for a mission it has helped me understand the graffiti artist in all types of conditions, from warm weather in Texas. To the bay breeze in San Francisco and Oakland to the freezing temps in Chicago. I recently teamed up with Masssive Paint in Chicago also along side with working with artist Nyke (CMW), Xaust (CBS) (MFK) (CT), Debso (CBS) (CT) to film a documentary I’m directing on trains. And with Massive Paint as the sponsor for the project. I’ve also been doing promo videos for Massive Paint  to help promote the company and the team of artist which I’m a part of. We recently went to Detroit to film for Massive Paint with Artist Debso, Xaust and guest artist from Detroit Sloe (WSG). Video will be put out this month and I’ll be flying out to Mexico to document the graffiti scene there as well getting prepared for two art shows in Chicago. And with Scruge Magazine from the bay area doing a story on me. So far this all is such a blessing, I don’t do this for fame or for money because I’m homeless but I do this because the words I get from people. Like even all the people from Sweden that tell me that I inspired them. For me that means so much because I would never think that some one from across the world would tell me that with out even knowing me.
