During a trip to Sydney for Streets Ahead, Scien and Klor of 123Klan nabbed the opportunity to jump on a wall supported by MTN Australia with Greg from Mishka and Lamour Supreme, along with Phibs, Peque, Pudl and Sare2. What was left was a collaboration of styles from around the world in a Sydenham street.
City / Country: Montreal, Canada
When did you start writing: 1992
What’s graffiti for you? Graffiti for me is first at all graffiti writing, focus on letters. Writing my name.
What do you do when you’re not painting? Hustle hard on BANDIT1SM our street-wear brand
How would you describe your style? Sharp maybe?
What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track? I first heard of it thru Hip Hop Culture, back in days, no social media. I was interested by the freedom of creation and developing your own style in graffiti writing, that’s why our motto is “Style is the message”. As long as i will be able to make it evolve, i will continue.
Is it important that people see your stuff and you get recognition? If not, why painting in the street and not in your backyard ;p Seriously, the more important is to meet people like you, and paint with them. when i began to paint in the street, even if people can think it’s vandalism, for me it was more a free museum, a street museum ;p All about sharing !
You been painting for a long time, is it the same feeling now as before? Yes because, i always keep graffiti writing as a “hobbie”, no money with it, make more easy to stay free. and still enjoy without rules from ” client” As long as get this excitation and pleasure to rock a piece, i will stay in the game. Graffiti in my own inspiration to do the rest.
What is your favorite city in the world and why? Many, i love NYC for the style, i love Roma for the spirit, and many town in Europe for their energy. South america is also really fresh and punchy, a lot of creative people.
What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like? i never spend time to look at what i don’t like, life is too short, and i have so many things to do.
What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city? Need them, or the culture will desepear. Need evolution.
Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there? Montreal is the chillest city in the world, the bad bad thing is winter, no way to paint outside, NOWAY!, and it can be a five month of snow !!! that’s why i jump on canvas in winter time.
How did it all start back in the days for you? Just easy as fall in love, and still then still doing. i used to be in a crew called TAB (The Atomics BOYS) it was an hip-hop crew, all together we use to paint a piece, because spray paint was really rare, + nothing was legal. All the members was writers, break-dancers, DJ, MC … We were family.
Can you ever feel tired of graffiti? not yet, after 22 years ;p
What writers have inspired you? At the beginning all the NYC scene such as Cope2, Tkid, Seen, but also a lot of German (Kakao, Poet, Kent, Can2, Loomit, Daim…)
What are the best and worst aspects of graffiti? Best: writing, Worst: human ;p People from the scene have to stop to talk shit, we need to be one to make this movement stronger. the enemy is not in the movement! we have to fight the system. No lesson, just respect! When i discovered this movement it was just about peace, unity and respect.
