Hello My Name Is: Z.Rock

Name: Z.Rock
Crew: AGLC & VDS
City/Country: Madrid, Spain
When did you start writing? End of 2001

What’s graffiti for you?
Graffiti is my day to day life, the thing that removes me from the reality and crap that surrounds me (including shit from within graffiti)

Influences?
Cinema, comics, classic illustrators, top writers, friends… every day brings influences that I never imagined before!

Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there?
Madrid has a great history, there have always been great writers and the city is literally covered with throw-ups, tags, pieces…. Madrid never sleeps…. It is pure stress!

What keeps you still writing?
Relaxing on the sofa checking out the photo album after each piece and hooking up with good mates at the next spot!

What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track?
When I was a kid I had my first contact with graffiti in the house of a family member and I started to get interested in everything I saw in his sketch books, photo albums and the walls I passed by in the streets. One day I did my first tag in a (horrible) electric blue and since then I have always wanted to learn more and to really get to know this world…. and now I’m still addicted to each and every stroke of the can.

What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like?
The lack of respect for other writers.

What do you do when you’re not painting?
Sleep.

How would you describe your style?
Alive.

Can you remember the first piece you did?
A silver throwie with an orange outline… very ugly… hahahahaha.

Future plans?
Non-stop traveling and painting!

Do you adapt your pieces and tags to the spot/surface?
Almost always, I don’t look for the easiest spot but one that will have a sweet photo at the end; I can’t resist a dope environment as a backdrop to my pieces.

What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city?
Too much hunger to paint and not enough time dedicated to the black book.

What are the best and worst aspects of graffiti?
Best: Friends and experiences
Worst: Egos and envy

Who do you paint for?
For me!

What writers have inspired you?
Mast, Know, Rage, Reso, Revok …

Can you ever feel tired of graffiti?
Yes, not of graffiti itself but the shit that surrounds it.

What do you hope people will think and feel when they see your stuff?
When they feel something that they write to me and we’ll see if we can connect.
