Hello My Name Is: Func88

func88_hmni_insta-puff-02

Name: Func’88
Crew: ULTRABOYZ, GT, CKT, PCP, TW, 666…
City/Country: Paris, France
When did you start writing? 1988

What’s graffiti for you?
A good way to be a society-outcast.

Influences?
The old 80’s euro style, CTKTCAPCPBBC

Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there?
Life is hard, perpetual struggling. Not that much stylers on walls these days compared to the 90’s and 00’s but a lot of good illegal graffiti writers.

What keeps you still writing?
I just cant stop even when i’m bored with it, i think it’s a kind of lifetime illness. I know some people who stopped and they’re not going well so far….

What first made you interested in graffiti and how did you end up on that track?
I started writing Skate-gang shit in the streets copying CR Stecyk’s Rat Bones tags and then find interest in bombing, seeing my name on walls.

What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like?
So many man… but i don’t want to be a hater so i stay focus on what i like and ignore the rest.

What do you do when you’re not painting?
I’m a graphic designer, art director for a skateboard brand and full time nerd.

How would you describe your style?
Future-Primitive.

Can you remember the first piece you did?
Of course, it was a blast! painting a shitty piece with my childhood friends. I hate me for not picturing this crap.

Future plans?
Keep bombing burners only for the fun of it!

Do you adapt your pieces and tags to the spot/surface?
I guess, like every writer with a bit of experience.

What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city?
There is a few crews coming up for a few years which seriously doing good and creative job….

What are the best and worst aspects of graffiti?
I’m a nostalgic of the old paris state of mine. Nowadays graffiti became mainstream it’s the worst part of it to me. The best part is being outside with my buddies emptying cans and sipping beers!

What do you hope people will think and feel when they see your stuff?
I don’t do it for people outside Graffiti. I know they couldn’t necessarily understand this bloody mess of colors and lines… If they like it and feel something about it, it’s a good point and i would say “thank you” but honestly i don’t care. As for the ones involved in it i just hope they catch the retro-futuristic touch behind my stuff and feel like it’s 1988 in a different time-lapse!
