Hello My Name Is: Day
Name: Day aka Oil
Crew: INKS (Inksulin Letterheads)
City/Country: Nürnberg, Germany
When did you start writing? 1995
What’s graffiti for you?
Graffiti is an important part of my life.
Influences?
Swedish Graffiti, Graffiti on Trains/Freights, Letters First!
Tell us about your city, how is life and graffiti there?
Nürnberg is more or less a tourist hotspot when it comes to medieval castles, Albrecht Durer, 3rd reich party grounds and subway graffiti. Beside that it has a small and kind of segregated graffiti scene. Everyone is doing his own thing. Life in Nürnberg is okay but it would be cool to have more quality styles and movement.
What keeps you still writing?
I will continue writing until I’ve painted the perfect piece (which will never happen probably). Moreover there are so many dope styles out there that give me an asskick to keep rocking.
What trends are you seeing now in the graffiti world that you don’t like?
There are a ton of trends out there, some I like, others are not my cup of tea. I definitely do not like blurry outlines, pseudo-3D, effect overloaded pieces and whacky lettering.
What do you do when you’re not painting?
Family style, Everyday Hustle.
How would you describe your style?
Simple Lettering inspired by the good old days with polished connections, clear structured layout with eye-popping color combinations.
Can you remember the first piece you did?
Yeah I can remember that. I did a 3-color-piece in my parents cellar. Not my best to be honest =).
Future plans?
Make more graffiti: Spray Daily!
Traveling: Hope to see you soon Spoce!
Do you adapt your pieces and tags to the spot/surface?
Not really. Sometimes I try to find the ideal placement for my pieces on a train or wall.
What do you do when you’re not painting?
As mentioned above: Take care of my family and earning my bread & butter.
What do you think about the new generation of writers in your city?
I do not have a close connection to the next generation. You can see a lot of football inspired graffiti and bombing.
What are the best and worst aspects of graffiti?
Best aspects: Exploring new spots and cities, finding new friends and partners and finally having fun.
Worst aspects: Expensive hobby.
Plus: Graffiti was the reason to waste a lot of time and not getting rich =).
Who do you paint for?
For me, myself and I.
What writers have inspired you?
Too many to mention.
Can you ever feel tired of graffiti?
Absolutely NOT!
What do you hope people will think and feel when they see your stuff?
I hope they see all the effort I put in my styles and pieces. Would be cool if it puts a little smile on their faces and motivates them to try harder and keep on rocking.
